  4.     DIED. John McIntire, 83, longtime actor and radio announcer;
  5. in Pasadena, Calif. Though he was well known for his role as
  6. the wagon master in the TV series Wagon Train, from 1961 to
  7. 1965, as well as for his acting assignments in such films as
  8. Psycho and Rooster Cogburn, McIntire made a name -- or, rather,
  9. a sound -- for himself as a booming, authoritative performer
  10. on The March of Time, early radio's best-known news-documentary
  11. series.
